The 3-Button Spam Strategy: Block, Report, Delete

Control your inbox without needing a tech degree

Still Getting Junk? Don't Just Delete It.

Ever delete a spam email and feel like you won… only for it to come back the next day from a slightly different address?

Here's the truth:

Deleting spam isn’t enough. You have to train your email provider to block it—and you’ve already got the buttons to do just that.

Let’s introduce your inbox’s strongest (but underused) tools: Block, Report Spam, and Delete.

🧱 1. “Report Spam” = Tell Your Email What’s What.

It’s like tattling, but in the best way.

When you click "Report Spam" (or “Mark as Junk,” depending on your inbox), your email provider:

  • Moves the message out of your inbox

  • Uses it to improve their filters for all users

  • Learns over time to block similar messages automatically

Where to find it:

  • Gmail: Click the exclamation ⚠️ icon

  • Yahoo: Hover over the shield icon and select “Report Spam”

  • Outlook: Right-click → Junk → Mark as Junk

2. “Block Sender” = Shut the Door for Good

Done with an annoying sender? Blocking them means their emails can't even try to land.

How to do it:

  • Gmail: Click the three dots in the top-right → Block [Sender]

  • Outlook: Right-click email → Junk → Block

  • Yahoo: More → Block Senders from dropdown

Think of it like programmable caller ID — great for repeat offenders.

3. “Delete” = Last Resort (But Still Useful)

Hey, sometimes you just want to dump the email and move on. That’s okay too.

But if you only delete and don’t report or block, your inbox won’t learn which emails to avoid next time.

🧹 Your New Email Routine

Once a week:

  • Open your inbox

  • Report 2–3 obvious spam emails

  • Block 1 annoying sender

  • Empty the spam folder (feels oddly satisfying, doesn’t it? 🙌)
